Damn technology! You('re) scary!

While my arm is getting stronger again and I sold my XBox 360 with a 70$ profit, I also bought a used XBox 360 in Germany (on eBay). I actually "won" a really good deal by getting into contact with the seller and he reuploaded it with an option to send offers and accepted the offer we agreed upon.

Sadly, I was not able to pay it with my phone, because mobile sites are d**ks and the app isn't allowed for german customers. At the library (for internet-pcs), I didn't have my bankdata on me.

So, I asked my roommates to use their macbook, and started the procedure after they finished the AFL (Australian football league)game, which their team won.
So i punched in my numbers, and while logging through eBay onto PayPal, then through eBay through PayPal onto my online-banking account, it processed and processed and processed, would let me reload due to safety measures and then:Oh, snap! I didn't have any internet connection anymore. So I checked my phone lying next to me with Vio in Skype, and the call was terminated. I quickly identified the problem to be between router and the internet (over cable) and started getting worried whether it would be possibly for an intelligent criminal to take over the connection, but knew I was save as I didn't enter a TAN. (And getting a TAN from someone and taking over the internet connection would be huge mess for some highschool-graduate's money)

We tried to figure out what the problem was and went through the textbook (and I was so, so sad, that neither my phone nor the mac featured "ipconfig" :-/ (who gets that one, please text me on skype or comment (goffo, if you don't get it... You will!)))

As all our efforts were futile, we figured out that it "may" be related to the fact that we didn't get any bills for it in the last 3 month, and went to the shop to pay up the next day, and it was reactivated, but still didn't work somehow.
We tried the standard stuff again (reconnecting, LAN-cable instead of WiFi, turning the router off for 5 secs, trying a different router...) and finally called customer supported with my phone. After spending 5 minutes waiting. After 20mins doing the stuff again with the supporter, we still only had a connection up to the shaw support center, but not to the web.
We ordered support to come tomorrow, but after saying goodbye the supporter said we should try resetting it from both sides simultaneously once more. The router started up again and heard a loud beep, and it did actually work! We wanted to tell him that it worked, BUT!: the beep actually came from my phone: my accounts balance was depleted! :-/

Dead Arm & TWSSF

Recently, I had my first physiotherapy exercises to raise my arm over shoulder height... And I was so surprised by the fact that I wasn't able to lift a 1kg-ball far into the air that I instantly tried it with the other arm ("What the hell of a heavy ball is that?"), which was obviously no problem. Even lifting the arm up high repeatedly feels like progressing muscles in a gym.

Anyways, we had the TELUS whistler snow sports festival for the last weeks, which was really entertaining and awesome. Throughout the festival, guys handed free stuff out, what got me to try Beef Jerky (w/ Teryaki flavour), eaten as a snack like germans would eat potato chips, but I couldn't stand them after a few pieces.

Btw:TELUS is a telecommunication brand, one of the four that use the only GSM network (Rogers) in canada and abuse their "monopoly", especially when it comes to mobile internet. I think I ranted about them before... :P

Blog reanimation: It's alive!

I, Frankenstein, finally followed through with my plan to bring the dead to life... Errr, I mean I continued my blog:

As you may have heard, I broke my left clavicle/collarbone (Schlüsselbein), now already 3 weeks ago. While the first week was rather painful, the next ones were kind of limited, but pleasant due to the Xbox360, Netflix (a movie-stream service) and my phone to access internet and a GBA-emulator.

Yesterday, I went to the doctor for a re-exam and was kind of shocked that the bone still looks broken even though it doesn't really hurt badly anymore. (As I know now, that's because the bone stopped moving, what causes a big part of the pain.)
Today, I went to the physiotherapy, which was really awesome, it feels great to start using it again although it's scary how weak my arm is after 3 weeks stasis. Additionaly, the physiotherapist set up electrodes on there for 15 minutes to cause the muscles to twitch to fiht the bruising (shoulder + top third of my breast was yellow-greenish). Feels really funny, I advise you to consider breaking your clavicle to try it :P. (But not if you miss on 6 weeks of snowboarding as trade-off ^.^)

@All: I need recommendations for movies and series/GBA game!

Freezing Coolness and Tomatenmark

As you may have realized, I haven't been writing because I'm kind of busy and never feel like writing the blog: So, this is the first entry completely written in original Whistler-Blackcomb gobdolas.

I enjoyed my first week of powder with my roommates and other boarders I met at the bus stop, the gondola, anywhere.

The second week of boarding was a bit harsher: No new snow and terribly cold: valley temperatures of -8 to -15°C, mountain temperatures down to -28° on the coldest day (and even coblder at nights). Thus, I had some icy tracks, and my wool-"scarf" froze to my face once. Nevertheless, I enjoyed riding very much.

Lately, I cooked something real for the first time in Canada: Maccaroni Gratinati; it was quite nice, although distinctively worse than when I did it in Germany. When buying th ingredients, I was worried whether or not I would find tomato paste ("Tomatenmark"): I was already choosing a tin of tomatoes when I saw some paste, the only one, in the bottom row. It was actually from a german brand (Gut und Günstig)and only described in German.

I'm euphoric! - Or: The tides turned twice

(Don't take the negative description too serious, I'm exaggerating)
The first day (and the evening before) turned out to be bad. So bad that I started thinking whether it was stupid to pay 800$ on a ski resort I had not yet seen. So bad that I thought that Vancouver with 5days of rain a week was at least warm. The house I had set my highest hopes on, the only one I had serious contact with, had long term candidates that would be preferrred by the landlord ("Vermieter"). My first day on the mountain was shitty as well. As I was only used to groomed (flattened, hardened, pressed snow) tracks, I was caught off-guards by the loads of snow that lay on every track. I spent more time digging myself out of (actually) 50cm deep snow than riding properly. The apartments I saw in the afternoon had alternative candidates, too. Finally, I got only half a night of sleep because one of my roommates snored constantly and loud.

---Beginning of possibly disturbingly boring description of snow conditions and snowboarding(tl;dr inc)----
The next day brought a rise in my mood through a really good snowboarding day: The snowstorm was gone and there were only ~15cm of new snow, making for a soft and enjoyable ride without the risk of being stuck. I started to understand that the whole resort was based on these conditions: much
snow in the winter and many rides for "few" (37) lifts. On my first day, I had, as I understood now, primarily taken seldom ridden tracks, thus I was one of the first guys to ride there, thus I faced loads of unridden deep snow one can easily stick in.
And today (third day), I found myself able to love the 35cm new snow: I rode through the deep snow, enjoying it as I learned how to control myself in it, knowing where I could afford to ride deep snow and where I needed my speed, so I wouldn't have ro run later.
---end of disturbingly boring part--- (tl;dr: snowboarden day2+3: awesome)

And now, after the third day of boarding, I got the apartment I first aimed for, 437$/month with nice roommates in a nice house. I enjoy my roommates in the hostel, a 25yo brazilian and a mid 40 australiam with the mind of a mid 20, both funny guys, even though one of them snores like hell (I've got earplugs now).

Whistler will be awesome!

Fast Forward to Whistler: Week 2

On Monday, I went to the Food Safe course that I had planned to go to on Sunday. It turned out to be as easy as expected (95% pass rate), but not as boring as expected (the teacher was actually funny :D). Since it filled most of the day, I didn't really do anything else.

I went to chinatown on Tuesday (Canada's biggest) and to a near nature reserve on Wednesday. Once I get Dropbox working, you'll get those photos (Post your E-Mail in a Comment/Send me an E-Mail to jonas.k.jk@googlemail.com to get them asap).

What kept me busy for the rest of the week were my tries to get an accommodation in Whistler...
I had 2 main sources of possibilities:

1. The Pique: The local weekly newspaper in Whistler, that has an classifieds section for long term rentals that can be seen online. About 4 postings from the whole last month in my desired area and price-range. Sadly, I could either not reach them albeit trying repeatedly (mailbox) or they were already occupied.

2. Source: Craigslist.org, an online webpage with at least 2 postings/day for room rentals between 400 and 600 $. Sadly, most of these were either only available in March or too far away to stay there without an own car. Additionally, some of my contacts turned out to be hollow posts (I hate trolls! :-/). One part of these just didn't answer, another could only be identified when comparing responses from different postings (exactly same response and life story, just with different names, occupations, but the same number from UK that I should call).

So, I had 3 really promising contacts from craigslist and tried to set up a meeting this week. However, neither of the 3 responded from Thursday to Saturday and I was nearly giving up hope when I got a positive response today (Sunday), as predicted by a horoscope I had read in the weekly paper (A big step on Sunday, and a big chance on Wednesday).

Tomorrow, I'm actually going to Whistler, I booked an Hostel for a few days until the room I'm renting is free, everything seems clear to strike.

Let's see what the great chance on Wednesday is :D

PS: Don't forget E-Mails for Dropbox-Pictures

Day 5: f̶̶o̶̶o̶̶d̶̶ ̶̶s̶̶a̶̶f̶̶e̶̶ ̶̶c̶̶e̶̶r̶̶t̶̶i̶̶f̶̶i̶̶c̶̶a̶̶t̶̶e̶ - "Science" World

(Imagine the headline as crossed-out "Food Safe Certifcate" - science world, until it's fixed)
Today, I was going to participate in a "Food Safe" course to obtain a certificate neccessary to work in food serving jobs in canada. However, the website was apparently not up to date (altough beung updated on the 01. of feb) and the course was only mondays +saturdays, but not sundays, as advertised on their homepage. So, I was in Vancouver at 9am lacking a plan what to do. So, I went to science world, a big impressive bowl hanging over the english bay that was orginally built for expo'86 and is located on my skitrain route to the city. Since I was quite early (SW opening @10am), I didn't really see any other customers and just bought a ticket and went inside...

I only realized why everything (EVERYTHING) was child-friendly ("wow, canada really looks out for everyone") when I saw that I was the only one that was neither:
A: an employee
B: under 8 years old
C: parent/company of B

In the end, I payed like 20$ to hang out with the volunteers and perform card tricks or other sleigh of hands for some time...
I had really hoped for more "science" and less "world", altough it's probably awesome for a five-y/o.

Since it was raining through most of that day, I hung out at a mall a bit and went home continueing my work @ jobs, accomodations and the blog...

I hope you appreciated my blog in english, feel free to point out errors, I don't feel like proofreading on my phone since it's a pain in the ass.
